The Brief

The Bearded Brewer tasked me with designing coffee bag stickers that reflect three core concepts: the journey from farm to cup, the local roots of the business in the Shoalhaven region, and the passion driving their baristas. Additionally, the packaging for seasonal blends needed to stand out, with each seasonal blend having a unique look that differentiates it from the everyday blends. The most recent seasonal blend, the Custard Cream Blend, was aimed at appealing to older generations in the Shoalhaven area.

Process

The project began with the creation of the general packaging for The Bearded Brewer’s coffee blends. I explored multiple design concepts before finalising one that received resounding approval from stakeholders and clients. The chosen design featured a grid layout that served as "windows" into the story and process behind each coffee blend, emphasising the brand's transparency and dedication to quality. This layout allowed for consistency across all products while giving flexibility for each blend to tell its own unique story.

To differentiate the various coffee blends, I developed a system of colour palettes—green for the Easter Blend, red for Roast for Miles, brown for the Frosty Blend, and yellow for the Single Origin blend. This ensured that each coffee stood out on the shelf while remaining cohesive under The Bearded Brewer's brand.

For the seasonal blends, I iterated on this core design, maintaining the grid structure but adding a distinctive twist to highlight the unique features of each seasonal offering. The Custard Cream Blend, for instance, featured nostalgic visual cues aimed at appealing to older customers, aligning with the intended target market while still retaining the overall brand identity.

The Outcome

The final coffee packaging stickers beautifully capture The Bearded Brewer’s journey from farm to cup, while reinforcing the brand’s local roots and deep passion for coffee craftsmanship. Each blend is visually distinct, with the seasonal blends—such as the Custard Cream Blend—standing out in their unique packaging. The combination of cohesive design elements with the use of colour and storytelling has successfully extended The Bearded Brewer’s brand recognition, ensuring a memorable presence both on shelves and in customers' homes.
